Went to The Hardware Store for a lunch catch up on Tuesday got there at just on 12 noon and lucky we did as it quickly filled up afterwards. For lunch: Beef burger, veggie burger, parmesan crusted chicken, summer salad, quinoa salad, hardware hotdog, pulled pork sandwich and a very tempting looking crab brioche.We went with the Bun Haters Veggie Burger (no buns here folks) and the corn fritters (can't say no to a fritter!). My friend got the Smoked chorizo breaky board (eggs poached in tomato, red pepper, butter beans, and chorizo broth - $22) - The dish was basically eggs in a tomato broth with some average chorizo added.
Good food, lovely atmosphere, reasonably priced, but get in early if you don't want to queue! Juice was good. The kind of place where the staff knew their customers by name and no matter how busy the store was, they always had time for you with lots of helpful tips and a few subtle handyman suggestions as well. Herbed crumbed poached eggs ($22) would be next on my must case list. I had the avocado and tomato bruschetta on ciabatta with pesto and Parmesan and it was amazing. Not once, but 3 times. Five well deserved stars from me!! It was busy when we arrived, a bustling atmosphere of chatter and really funky decor. The bread was like a rock, and came with no butter (I had to steal some from Renay's pancakes) - it was almost impossible to cut. Play a game, order more food/coffee? Very relaxed for a Saturday morning at 8am, lots of couples who had been to the beach, or had their dogs in tow (dining outside in front) and just general newspaper reading over a juice. The modern yet creative local serves up fresh and healthy produce for breakfast and lunch, with a focus on great service. Another lovely cafe with an industrial feel to it. The food is a little on the pricey side but the portions are large and ingredients are fresh. staff were ok, coffee ok. Coffee lovers get yourselves down here and try their brew. I had the smashed avocado and the missus had the granola both amazing. Another lovely cafe with an industrial feel to it. Quite a few customers had left food on their plates...and no one asking for feedback as to why. My dog enjoyed the Chorizo the most. Italian Restaurants for Lunch in Scarborough. Will come back to taste the coffee! Reasonable waiting time considering how busy the shop was. The Hardware Store Cafe is one of the best spots in the area. Love this cafe - great menu and awesome coffee. No more herb crummbed egg fewer choices. Menu is too hard to choose from, the preparation and presentation is second to none. The brekkie was tasty and came as a huge portion!
Looks like a lovely place with quality coffee, just don't bring the kids!! So flavoursome and tasty. It is best on a quieter day as the weekends get packed for breakfast to lunch and the service notably slips at those peak times.
