The Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University helped to invent the field of bioethics, beginning a tradition of creative leadership in practical ethics that continues into the twenty-first century. The updated course is a collaborative venture between the Kennedy Institute of Ethics (KIE) and the university’s Pellegrino Center for Clinical Bioethics (PCCB), reflecting the course’s greater emphasis on clinical bioethics. The Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal is extremely proud to present this special volume on ethical and social issues arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, featuring work that is practically relevant and engaged as well as conceptually rigorous. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and following Georgetown University guidance, it is with regret that the Kennedy Institute of Ethics and the Pellegrino Center for Clinical Bioethics have decided to cancel the Intensive Bioethics Course (IBC) this year. Credit DesignationThis activity was planned by and for the healthcare team, and learners will receive 16.50 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change, accredited by MedStar Health. Further details about next year’s course will be posted in due course. Some features of this site may not work without it. Day 1 (led by experts from the KIE) will explore ethical theory, including core ethical principles and issues in global bioethics.
It is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of research scholars from multiple disciplines, including philosophy, law, political science, and education. Located at Healy Hall, it was established at Georgetown University in 1971 as a bioethics center, think tank and library. IBC 44 had been scheduled for June 4-6, 2020.
