outlast: whistleblower review

Waylon begins this new expansion content in a precarious situation, and it won’t be long until things go haywire and the halls of the asylum are overrun with the maniacal inmates we’ve gotten to know oh so well. Its sound design is still top notch, and it took me to some dark places that few video games ever dare to go. Found it even better than the original. You see through the eyes Of Waylon who is working at the asylum when things go to..well...sh*t. You.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Outlast: Whistleblower (DLC) [Download] at Amazon.com. Amazing DLC for an amazing game. Wow. There are more action episodes in the game so it. What's this? Whistleblower also takes most of the tension outside of the asylum into swamps and courtyards – and while this is a nice change of scenery, fog covers up most of the visual shortcomings of these environments.

Even though the scares are the same as the main Outlast game, there are a few more terrifying moments which were intense throughout. like Old boy MIles, you try to escape using nothing but a camera you found to record things going on and to see in the dark, incappable of combat yet again. The game's many fans, however, really do need to pick this up.

A lot less of the “cheap” scares are employed and instead the game does a fantastic job of building up a scare rather than just throwing it at you suddenly – there’s barely any moments in the game where you won’t feel tense and anxious in Whistleblower. He's the man who writes that fateful letter to Outlast's protagonist, the one decrying the inhumane conditions at the asylum and calling for an investigation. Who’d want to be a whistle-blower at this f***ed up place, seriously … Then again, without heroes willing to put their own lives and. What's this? Whistleblower holds nothing back.

In Whistleblower, Waylon suffers a pretty nasty fall, and has to outrun everything after that point with a staggering limp.

Highly recommended. Please enter your birth date to watch this video: You are not allowed to view this material at this time. With that in mind, I felt slightly more attuned to playing as an unlucky whistle-blower, as compared to being an incredibly brave reporter.

Bottom Line: Outlast: Whistleblower isn't quite as memorable as its parent game, but nonetheless provides plenty of grisly encounters and tells a more complete story.

Survive, and you may just have a chance to expose the terrible secrets at the heart of Mount Massive and unmask the true face of the Murkoff Corporation for all the world to see. Review: Outlast – Whistleblower.

As Waylon Park, the whistleblower who emailed Miles Upshur, you’ll witness psycho killers and asylum security face off as all hell truly breaks loose.

There’s really no other way around it: the prequel Whistleblower DLC is even scarier than the original Outlast, if you can actually believe that.

It expands on the original background, and somehow manages to fix some of the few issues of the main chapter, namely linearity.

Generally favorable reviews- based on 147 Ratings. It also ups the ante in the terror department, hitting harder and more frequently, without relying too heavily on jump scares. Delivers more of the same gruesome locales and jump-scares as the core game, but doesn't introduce much new to the horror experience.

Outlast: Whistleblower DLC Review; Reviews Outlast: Whistleblower DLC Review. Totally worth your money and time. While a good portion of the ground that Waylon covers in Whistleblower is the same that Miles traverses in the original game, nothing ever feels too redundant, and there is just as much that’s new here to set the DLC apart as its own incredibly frightening entity. Of course, Waylon is caught doing this and thrown into the asylum himself, although sinister events begin to play out and Waylon is somehow let free. "The Man Who Wrote The Letter" could have been Waylon's entire character, but developer Red Barrels doesn't stop his development there – Waylon has a wife, Lisa, and a child.
The expansion story is almost as long as the base game itself, with the main difference being that Red Barrels now gives you no time to ease into their manic, heart pounding style of survival horror gameplay. The game opens with Waylon sending an email, the same email that Miles Upshurr receives at the beginning of the original Outlast game that prompts him to head to the asylum.

It, too, takes place inside of Mount Massive Asylum, just as its patients start to overrun the facility, some of them cowering in corners and others roaming the halls with bonesaws, out for blood.

Especially later on. Read honest and unbiased product reviews from our users.

It’s yet another simple way to drill up anxiety in the player and it works surprisingly well in Whistleblower. For Outlast fans and horror aficionados alike, a return to the demented halls of Mount Massive is exactly what the doctor ordered. Red Barrels delivers again. But he still needs to escape the asylum – and that will be half the battle.

The Whistleblower is scarier, and has unexpected well-made ties to the original title.

Many of these are great and effective in establishing Waylon’s character and some of his backstory in a very subtle manner. In terms of pacing and tension, Whistleblower is very well focused and unlike the ending of the original Outlast game I would find it hard to believe any player would find Whistleblower’s ending unsatisfying – though I won’t specify if it’s a happy or sad one. Waylon’s heartbeat is synchronised to the controller’s rumble so every time Waylon is feeling tense or worried, the player feels physical feedback to assert this association.

Very good DLC for a good game.

If you are looking for an experience completely different than the original Outlast, you should probably look elsewhere. Finally, one of the game’s two main stalkers has an audio cue that, as soon as you hear it, will instantly make you start stepping more cautiously.

Very good DLC for a good game.

this addition to the game has a good story but gets repetitive after a, the spooks and thrills kept me on the edge of my seat the whole day. You’ll see a crazed inmate masturbating over a pile of dead bodies. As Waylon Park, the whistleblower who emailed Miles Upshur, you’ll witness psycho killers and asylum security face off as all hell truly breaks loose. Make sure you have a change of underpants handy: Whistleblower is even scarier than the original Outlast. Whistleblower assumes that you’ve already played through the main game (or at least tried to), and it brings on the sense of panic almost immediately, and it brings it on hard. Good to see there are still companies out there willing to do games this extreme. It’s simple and it’s effective, and everything that worked in the base game works well in Whistleblower.

Rather surprisingly, Whistleblower takes place before, during and after the events of Outlast. the great dlc game in outlast, soundtrack is good and the gameplay verry well, Wow.

Outlast Whistleblower is a perfect dlc for the main game. Visually, Whistleblower is more or less the same as Outlast.

You’ll encounter instances of cannibalism at every turn, with a new enemy who screams “FEED ME!” as he chases you down the claustrophobic corridors with a buzz saw. © 2020 CBS Interactive Inc. Very good dlc, the actual game was amazing i frequently say that it was my favourite game of 2013.

Outlast Whistleblower is a perfect dlc for the main game.

based on There are more action episodes in the game so it feels a bit different than original game but still scary. One of the most annoying things about Outlast was its constant recycling of scenario encounters – namely the idea of “find three items in an open area and then escape” schema it employed much too often in the base game. It’s very intense. So if you liked original you will like DLC for sure.

It’s still a dark and depressing game with an oppressive and dilapidated atmosphere. As with the original game, Waylon can film certain items with his camera to write “notes” which tell his perspective on the events that are unfolding in front of him. Anyone who felt unnerved by the content in the base game should be warned that Whistleblower takes all of this amplifies it to a point where I’ve not really seen anything like it in a video game.

You discover these facts in documents littered around the asylum, and in the notes Waylon writes to Lisa as he films his journey. Very good dlc, the actual game was amazing i frequently say that it was my favourite game of 2013.

I would of expected it to be a bit longer, and to make it less frustrating at certain moments because it takes away a bit of the experience.
