tapo vs kasa

I just thought the the Tapo C200 camera was the next generation of the KC110 as they're clearly the same pan\tilt\zoom camera on a different base. Controlling the camera and socket is easy from the app and can be linked to your virtual assistants such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Umm... those switches are hideous! Which leads me to Kasa or Smart Life/Tuya. But the cloud connection is TLS encrypted... Only the the local connection does not use encryption.. local data does not go "over the wire" in plain text, it is encoded. Stories: 0. Note: the reason I ask is the "time delay" between me setting it up through local lan vs the time the husband wants to use it. For the Tuya platform, many (most??) So many options to choose from. As hubitat does not (yet) support encryption, to use these devices you will need to make software and/or hardware modification to the device (to change the firmware) so that it can be used with Hubitat (via the sOnOff (Connect) app). There are countless items in your home to control from this and during the summer, one of the handiest is a fan to help cool down a room, especially useful in summer! One of my favourite smart home brands is TP-Link which I’ve used for many years. Apart from this is there any difference in quality, ease of use or integration with Alexa, or should I just go for the cheaper Tapo cameras and put up with having to use 2 apps? I know this is the route people have been using with Tuya, but never saw, or noticed, as to why. The husband focuses on aesthetics.

Correct. The driver set; although developed by me, has evolved based on user concerns and issues. We’re Laura and Ricky, two twenty-something friends sharing our passion, home design and interiors. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Keeping yourself extra cosy and warm at home is a priority during the colder months of the year.…, Researching new smart home tech and gadgets that make life that little bit easier is something I love…, Who doesn’t love a bit of technology for the home?

Although the Kasa devices do not have AES security, they can be set to local control only (i.e., do not use cloud to control). It isn't even listed as a model when creating this post. https://www.tp-link.com/us/kasa-smart/kasa.html. @tpLnkUser923 sadly not, I think eveyone is more or less ceding integration and advanced features to Alexa now.

Top-notch technology with a few "bugs" – choose if you want a mini smart plug and don't mind the higher price. The only nice this is the "remote" is removable from the face plate thing.

Thanks, cybermage. If I needed cheaper, I'd just use Wyze plugs. Now that I know Kasa and Tapo are two different ecosystems, like other users, I am immediately returning the Tapo C200 and now looking for a different unified ecosystem and app. @cybrmage Now that's good info. Now that I know Kasa and Tapo are two different ecosystems, like other users, I am immediately returning the Tapo C200 and now looking for a different unified ecosystem and app. Yes, Tapo P100 has no IFTTT, but it seems it's able to work around the clock without WIFI(tested on my router for at least 8-10 hours), Kasa HS-105 can't do the trick. What I love most about this is everything has built-in WiFi, meaning each device connects to your router directly, rather than requiring you to plug in a separate hub to your router. If not planned, it should be something that TP-Link should consider, Having to run Kasa and Tapo app for different devices.

It will have to be invoked through other means (like Kasa Tools). The camera also has built-in night vision up to around 9 metres, two-way audio and a privacy mode. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Setting up the camera was easy, except for a few hiccups (my WiFi and mobile data was interfering with connecting the camera, I fixed it by switching off data). Kasa and Tapo work fine with Alexa at least, and that gives me the kind of scheduling I'm after - x minutes before/after sunset/sunrise, that V1 HS100s can't do.

I'm afraid they'll be going back for a refund. Sadly, this isn’t the case.

What's your views on the future of Kasa local-only abilities?

This used to be available in the Kasa phone app (but has been removed) and is now available through the just publised Kasa Tools application to re-introduce these restrictions. In local only control, the Kasa App does not control your device and the Google / Amazon Kasa skills do not work (they work through the Kasa Cloud. At the end of the free plan, you need to subscribe to one of the paid plans to continue to use the cloud storage. I've just done exactly the same thing on the basis that I will be able to use the normal Kasa app. Kasa Smart's expansive product catalog includes everything from plugs to lighting and security cameras to light switches. It's also why I'm interested in Tuya over TP-Link. Press J to jump to the feed. Scheduling and timers. Tuya is a singular software ecosystem across dozens of hardware manufacturers. Note: 1. And Smart Life is an ecosystem filled with all sorts of third party vendor harder that do also retain a physical +/- button. TP-Link Kasa Smart Socket (left) vs TP-Link Tapo Socket (right) – Much smaller! We thought about going with Caseta, due to that reliability and local ability with the Pro hub. What is the difference between Kasa and Tapo.

The Hue switch looks so much cleaner and even has additional functionality with continuous "On" presses. I'm paying close attention to that. KC110( V1 ) , KC100( V1 V2 ) , KC200( V1 ) , KC105 , KC300S2( V1 ) , KC120. Can it be both? It's the internet equiv of Z-Wave Plus. If you’re new to the world of smart home technology, you’ve got a huge range of products and brands to choose from which can become pretty overwhelming! And the Tapo P100 supports up to 20 schedules at once time; while the HS100 supports 31. That's why I wasn't a huge fan of Insteon, or even Lutron to be honest (Lutron requires their *Pro* hub for local compatibility). I simply needed another KC110 and I loved it, it worked great, and was so easy to see my different cameras all from one interface on Kasa. When you take into consideration the affordability of the devices (the Tapo Smart Plug is only £12.99 on Amazon), these are a MUST-HAVE! There is no option to save to the cloud, which is handy if you’re not a fan of yet another monthly subscription fee, like me. I would like to be kept up to date with TP-Link news, product updates and promotions.

[1] It's pretty ugly, to be honest. @jeubanks Not denying that one at all. It feels like a cheap and light plastic toy rather than an electronic gadget. One last question, @cybrmage and @djgutheinz: As I mentioned earlier. Drops in connectivity and occasional failures syncing with voice control have been reported. Copyright © 2020 TP-Link Corporation Limited. Not modern in my book. That is when local only becomes an option. Alternative direction you can use in-wall modules and then put whatever pretty switch on the outside you want. I'm paying close attention to that. 2.

Don't be mistaken they want a closed ecosystem just like the other device vendors. It is also not clear text. The smart plug is fairly self-explanatory and easy to control.

• Preset Away mode to make it seem like someone is home. O also prefer the layout of the Kasa app.

All the Kasa cameras will apply a 2-year limitation for the free plan. Not the first to not like the Caseta look. I like being able to control the same device through Google OR Hubitat OR my phone OR HassIO, etc. Rolling 12-hour video history for 2 years, $3 per month, per camera or $30 per year, per camera, $10 per month, per account or $100 per year, per account, TP-Link takes your privacy seriously. But based on what I've read here, the Caseta range is the best option (although I also do understand your thoughts on the aesthetics).

I'd rather it be fully functional through a quick Google link to Kasa, while I do tinkering on the backend with the local network until I'm ready to switch to local-only. I really had a very good impression of the brand until now. The Hue switch looks so much cleaner and even has additional functionality with continuous "On" presses. But nobody will disagree with their quality and reliability. 4 comments. Having light switches that require internet and now you're just begging for slow response and bad lighting automations!!!

The camera is especially unique with its function to tilt and pan the view which is notably easy to control from the app and view from wherever you have an internet connection. From smart lights to the remote controls, this…, On Wednesday, Google hosted their #madebygoogle event to reveal all the new tech products coming out this autumn.…, TP-Link Tapo C200 Pan/Tilt Security Camera, Essential Home Tech and Gadgets for Renters. But, we just can't stand the hideousness of their switches. So the intermediary get around those restrictions. TP-Link doesn't have such a transparent CEO connecting directly to the hobbyist communities like Inovelli. Just hope they will integrate but I doubt so because they will have done so when they launch their new product. At least, for now, until I build up my local ecosystem. The reason for the intermediary depends on the target platform. Lover of simple minimalist design and always needs the latest gadget (after debating whether or not to buy it for weeks). It enjoys easy setup on iOS and Android, a great mobile app, and integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. But nobody will disagree with their quality and reliability. @mike.maxwell discussed one on the latest pod-cast and you might ask him about specific model status and (not guaranteed) plans. Posts: 1. They both work well with Google Assistant and Amaxon Alexa. to use these devices you will need to make software and/or hardware modification to the device. In one word, the Tapo P100 has lower price, while the HS100 has stronger performance. Especially as the Kasa range of products is HUGE and already dominates the market. I don't mind software - software can be hacked or proxied.

TP-Link is an umbrella organization that handles smart plugs designed by two companies — Tapo and Kasa. The camera performs really well and the app is very user friendly and easy to use in our testing.

to know the details of each camera. @Kevin_Z Idiot decision, I decided to buy a known brand to avoid several applications and surprise! Focusing on the "modern look" will cost you a lot of money and create a lot of frustration. All rights reserved. All smart devices in the Tapo range are set up and controlled through the dedicated Tapo app from Google Play and the App Store. Once you install Hubitat, you have the option of using the Hubitat linkage to Google / Amazon to control the devices. Oh, I get it. This really is such a marketing fail of a decision and I would like to be more vociferous in my disapproval, but I will vote with my money and choose a logical single manufacturer and unified ecosystem. The subreddit for all things TP-Link and Kasa Smart, including Wi-Fi routers, network switches, smart plugs, smart bulbs, smart light switches, cameras, and more! Modern is simple, edges, solid. Compared to HS100, the Tapo P100 is smaller, and the maximum load supported is lower than the HS100.
