This is a pet that i have mixed feelings about, i love Ahn'Qiraj and i love the way this pet looks, it is just a pity that its so tiny. We switched to our alts to try our luck again, my Shaman used Frostbrand weapon and Frost Shock which worked to get him frozen.

Worked perfectly although I froze him to early and had to freeze him again them wait for my trinket to reset (10 min) to finish him off. The time i got the pet he did. Because if you are a raider then you need a way to make gold, and engineering is not that. Couldn't crack him with my fiend. Three splits is definitely doable as long as you can reliably kill 6 blobs each time and keep as many DPS alive as possible.

You have to place the target reticle, and then it has a cast time AND a travel animation before it does any damage. Then repeat this process until he dies. Although the pet did not drop.. :-( but now I know how to solo him! we carry about 7-8 mages.

I've solo'd this guy about 15 times so far and he NEVER drops the dang pet! Got mine from AH for 500g :) Was the last one needed for the achievement too. Woah that's a little overkill lol. (Had a friend attempt this with his priest and can confirm that it works.).
But it's one of those rare fights (like Baron) where stacked melee isn't optimal.
