Out of the group of young actors first gathered together 12 years ago on NBC’s Freaks And Geeks, Martin Starr has kept one of the lowest profiles.
I’d watch pretty much any Star Trek that was on.
The whole thing played really well for me. Once I met her, she’s so memorable. MS: Yeah.
And that was what made him so depressed. He’s someone that I would like to work with in the near future. The book included chapters explaining the numerous interactions that POM had with such areas as financing and marketing. I’m not that vengeful a person; I’ve worked through my issues. It is rather unfair, however, to introduce Martin Starr by referencing a character he played nearly 15 years ago, when he was only 17. AVC: In addition to this role, you played a hacker on Hawaii Five-0 this past season. STARR: Paul Scheer, the creator, said “I think we have the opportunity to do this show and I was just wondering if you wanted to come and do it?” I said “Yes.” It was literally that simple. MS: Yeah. I’m fairly specific about the kinds of things that I want to do. STARR: There’s a movie I want to make in five years, so I’d like to be in pre-production on that.

STARR: Yes, I wrote a show this past year for ABC, it didn’t get picked up. I think they were trying to set it up, and then one of the main cast kind of ended up playing the tech guy, because I guess they hadn’t really figured out everyone’s role in it yet.
Lizzy and I communicated a little, but I think things just tend to fall into place… if you let them.
Because it should be fun. BROWN: Did you hit him and ask him why he would do such a thing? [laughs] When you do a press junket, they kind of all have three questions that are exactly the same and they all start out with them—”What’s your character? BROWN: I think it was less of a question and more of a sentence, in the hopes that you would start talking to me and I would not have to verbally prod you.
I’ve been writing movie scripts, but it’s a difficult process. So there’s just fun to be had to go from emo into a hip-hop tech guy. There’s just something weird about it, something uncomfortable about it. AVC: How are those situations stressful for you? Then in 2001, he did the short film ‘Eyeball Eddie’ and also appeared in the series ‘Roswell’. I played that for so long.
Is that what you’re asking for? AVC: When you hear someone’s a big fan of Party Down, does it pop into your mind that “Oh Alex O’Loughlin, he could’ve been a good guest star for the show”? I think I just let things play out. STARR: My first question would be: “Why is there a peculiar density to your flatulence, and why does it smell as badly as it does?” No, that wouldn’t be my first question. Now you know me, I think this interview is pretty much over. But I didn’t necessarily remember her going into it, or think about that. However, the actor is highly active on social networking sites in order to stay in touch with his fans and followers. At the time of Starr's Ph.D. award in 1953, production and operations management was a relatively young discipline. AVC: Have you known guys like your Party Down character, Roman, frustrated writers who are always pointing out flaws in other people’s writing?
That’s the real driving force. I always wanted to, though.
It’s like one of the best experiences I’ve had. I was 16 when I got Freaks and Geeks, and that was exactly why. Party Down was so low-budget and everybody was in it because they loved the show and they loved the material, and it’s so much fun to make, because everybody was in it and had heart. So then we could start moving forward. There’s no reason why this shouldn’t be the most amazing experience every time we work. It’s a great group of people. Sushil K. Starr evinces a global perspective in his work on production operations. But I was raised doing comedy and drama improvisation, and scene study as well, and different things when I was a kid.
He received his undergraduate education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before pursuing graduate study in operations research at Columbia. STARR: Yeah. STARR: I would certainly want to open a dialogue to see if it is something I’d be comfortable with, but I take it person to person. I applied to a supermarket in Florida and they did not accept my application.

Or something that scared the shit out of me? I think I was 15. AVC: What was it about the Party Down experience that made it one of your favorites?
Initially, in my opinion, there was a hope to find another network to take us on and allow further growth of the show, [but] that wasn’t being allowed by the network. I have the reputation for being the opposite of a money-grubber. That’s how I found out.

I grew up in LA and I’ve been fortunate enough to be doing this for a great deal of years; if someone is thinking of me as they’re writing something I take it as a huge compliment and hope that it’s an interesting character at least.
