Having previously seen them from a whale-watching boat from a distance, I hadn’t quite grasped how massive and magnificent humpback whales are. We decided to spend one night in Exmouth and check out the town. We flew into Perth from London with Qatar Airways (who were extremely lovely and upgraded me to business class for one of the legs!) The minuses - The weather was beautiful, nothing was too crowded, and we were able to time it right for many of the region’s best activities ( swimming with whales sharks in Exmouth, viewing Staircase to the Moon in Broome, etc). Because Exmouth is known for marine life, I strongly suggest booking in a couple of boat tours during your time in the area. It’s a beautiful spot. Alternatively, pay a visit to the Abrolhos Islands for the day on a Scenic Flight from Geraldton (or Kalbarri). They were also very kind and let us have a late check out so that we could shower after our tour the next day. Then it was back on the boat and back to the harbour for the final leg of our journey.
