Completing the line-up of the new series is Italian actor Greta Scarano, who plays the character of Anna, whilst Michael Emerson, who is perhaps most notable for his roles in Lost and The Practice, appears as the immensely funny Abbot.

Speaking of the show's writing process, Turturro revealed, "My interest, why I started working on the script with Giacomo Battiato, was to put as much of Eco as we could into the series because I didn’t really want to do a watered-down version.". approached to play the character of William Baskerville.

But is The Name of the Rose based on a true story?

Based on the bestselling novel by Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose was one of those big buzz, highbrow films of the 1980s (I remember it getting a BBC1 premiere on Boxing Day 1989) that helped lift Connery out of his career slump, setting him on course for his Oscar win just two years later for his supporting role in The Untouchables. I was not at all prepared for Ron Perlman’s hunchback-character. Made by fans in Auckland, New Zealand.

Christian Slater. However, following the arrival of an inquisitor named Bernard Gui — who has been sent by Pope John XXII — the pair's work on the investigation is somewhat interrupted.

The pair set out on a quest to discover the truth surrounding the mysterious death of a monk, and upon their arrival, face the wrath of a powerful inquisitor who has been sent by the Pope himself. i so incredibly disliked this and my questions for the french department multiply. Cast (in credits order) verified as complete.

A film with an interesting plot, but a very dull execution.

... Adso von Melk. Which I like. With James Bond still being his most prominent role at this point, Connery initially appears an unusual choice for a character whom Eco blatantly based on Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes (the clue is in the Franciscan monk's….

I haven't read the book so I can't really say if this is a Great adaptation or how it compares to it,but judging it on it's own, this is one overlooked film!It Beautifully brings the meddle ages to life mostly through the costumes and face make-up of the actors and features easily the best Sean Connery performance I've ever seen.Would Recommend! But I understand it's part of narrative of a ficcion tale. And I loved the adventure of twoo monks inspired in Sherlock Holmes investigation, using the indicatory paradigm, a useful form of investigate history, like a detective seeking for clues to resolve the problem: the deaths of severeal monks in a misterious way. It's always an inspiration. • A play adaptation by Grigore Gonţa premiered at National Theatre Bucharest in 1998, starring Radu Beligan, Gheorghe Dinică, and Ion Cojar. I thought it was the most boring movie that I had ever seen.

Helmut Qualtinger.

So I can enjoy how good adaptation in ficcion of a monastery and scriptorium of that period of the film.Of course had some misunderstandings, especially how humor worked in that period...Medieval times had a lot humor and doesn't had some kind of censorship of the production of manuscripts, this kind of concept even exist.

Adso!!!

It's a well researched, meticulously implemented view into life in the 1300s. © Letterboxd Limited. Eine starke Präsenz von Sean Connery, der in der deutschen Fassung charismatisch von Gert Günther Hoffmann synchronisiert wird.

Watched this again to prepare for my next production. The acting, the casting, the pacing, it's all way off, and yet it never dips below enjoyable. I was intrigued by the story (it's a classic murder mystery), but the whole movie is set in on one location, and it is pretty uneventful, so it was a really tedious experience. IMDb I'm stumped by this bizarre detective story set in an Italian monastery in the year 1327.

Отличный актерский состав: Коннери как влитой, молодой Слейтер похож на Логана Лермана, Перлман крадет все сцены, Федор Шаляпин Мл.

The solution to the mystery is…. Name of the Rose a movie from 1986 directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and starring Sean Connery, Christian Slater, and F. Murray Abraham. TMDb Slater is just wrong though.

Not just a great mystery but also one of the best-made mysteries I've ever seen in terms of set design and period detail, The Name of the Rose is a terrific historical thriller that's easy to be immersed into thanks to the astonishing filmmaking craft on display, as well as Sean Connery's fantastic performance that's easily one of the legendary actor's very best.

The Name of the Rose kicks off its eight-episode run on Friday, October 11, at 9 p.m. on BBC Two, and I don't know about you, but I'm seriously looking forward to this updated take on Umberto Eco’s best-selling novel. That sex scene, however, has left me a little scarred. Sean Connery trying to save books in the middle of a rapidly raging inferno...I feel you mate, I feel you. More like who, in the name of god, decided it was okay to adapt Umberto Eco's masterpiece into this absolute joke of a film? Do you love all types of movies? Vista ahora, ¿siete?
