Though it *may* have traumatized my poor mother-in-law the last time she was in town, this has become one of my favorite films to watch with my young daughter. My four year-old child and I watched this beautiful animation together. Meanwhile, the young girl had seemingly forgot about the creature! It is a bit of a tradition that there is at least one new animated short film from the UK each year that runs for half an hour and is released during the days of Christmas and here we have the most recent installment to that tradition. I thought Christmas was a cheerful time, but obviously not. She has since she was 2.5. A little Gruffalo ignores her father's warnings and tiptoes out into the snow in search of the Big Bad Mouse. 20 minutes later after the movie ended and my 7 year old daughter is still wailing!
I tuned it out the first several time and then realized that the main plot has to do with the young girl losing her grandpa and wanting to find a new friend to bond with.

A tiny snail goes on an amazing journey by hitching a ride on the tail of a huge humpback whale. But then the rest of the family finds the sister and the bear and scream and run away in a panic and the poor bear follows behind, perhaps thinking they are hurting/abducting his new friend. Cute music too. If I was you I would stick to the classic festive movies, rather than depressing short films like this. This could also have been named "The Bear Hug". Yes in terms of the story, it is true that nothing happens almost, but it does not take away from the film's appeal.
